Beamer’s Golf Classic is an annual golf tournament which benefits the Beamer Hughes Foundation and the Muscular Dystrophy Association (MDA).  The ninth annual Beamer’s Golf Classic was Monday, July 27, 2009 at Lake Shore Country Club.  Through the Beamer Hughes Foundation, this event continues to raise money to benefit children, adults, and families affected with one or more of the 43 neuromuscular diseases which comprise muscular dystrophy, and who live in the Greater Rochester and Finger Lakes Area.     The Beamer Hughes Foundation is a 501(c) not-for-profit charitable organization and is named after Thomas H. Beamer Hughes.  In 2003, Beamer’s closest friends established the Beamer Hughes Foundation as a tribute to Beamer’s caring and generous spirit in helping others secure the necessary equipment and support services for people affected with muscular dystrophy and living in the Greater Rochester/Finger Lakes Region.  While fighting the devastating effects of muscular dystrophy himself, Beamer, his wife Stephanie, and his friends, have raised over $300,000 to help people with muscular dystrophy obtain the equipment and support services they need to live.

The dollars raised stay here to help people affected with muscular dystrophy who live in Genesee, Livingston, Monroe, Ontario, Orleans, Seneca, and Yates counties.  Services include:

  • Patient services at the Neuromuscular Disease Clinic located at the University of Rochester Medical Center
  • Purchasing  of stair, bed and pool lifts, specialized chairs, and commodes
  • Vehicle modifications
  • Purchasing of wheelchairs, power chairs, and leg braces
  • Purchasing of communication devices
  • Summer Camp Program for children ages 6 to 21 years old with muscular dystrophy.  Locally, camp is held at the Rotary Sunshine Camp Campus in Rush, NY annually.
  • Support groups to assist children, adults, and families affected with muscular dystrophy
  • Public and professional education sessions

Please consider a donation to this worthwhile event.  In exchange for your generous donation, your organization will receive recognition during the event outlining the contribution and in our pre and post event communication materials.   Thank you in advance for your support.
